What is SSC Cgl

The SSC CGL, you might know it as the Staff Selection Commission, is a combined graduate level exam. This exam is conducted nation-wide and helps the recruit candidates for Group B and Group C posts in multiple departments of the Government of India

Eligibility For SSC CGL

Those who are applying for SSC CGL must know that they have to pass the three rounds of the exam. Registration for these are open in month of April and the first round is usually held on July. 

Eligibility criteria for this always differ from post to post and the common eligibility criteria are here mention: 

Nationality: One must be a citizen of India, Nepal, or Tibetan refugees that came to India before January 1962. 

Age: Based on the year wise pattern and also department wise. This includes- 

  • For the Intelligence Bureau (IB), the Central Board of Direct Taxes (BCDT). The National Investigation Agency (NIA), officers under CAG and older must not exceed 30 years of age. 
  • For the Ministry of Railways and the Ministry of External Affairs, the central secretariat service age must be between 20 and 30 years. 
  • For Ministry of Statistics of Program and Implementation (MoSPI), the age must be up to 32 years. 

Qualifications: Based on certain posts that are: 

  • Statistical Investigator Grade B- You must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. And has a minimum of 60% in mathematics in class 12th.
  • Assistant Audit Officer (CA, CS, MBA) Cost and Management Accountant/Masters in Commerce/Masters in Business Studies. 
  • Assistant Section Officer: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
  • All other posts require a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university.

Exam Pattern of SSC CGL

This exam contains three tiers and each of which has specific exam pattern- 

  • Tier-I or Preliminary Exam: Objective-type questions covering general intelligence, reasoning, quantitative aptitude, and English comprehension.
  • Tier-II or Mains Exam: Descriptive paper and multiple-choice questions on quantitative abilities, English language, statistics, and general studies.
  • Tier-III or Descriptive Paper: Essay writing, letter/application writing, and précis.

Application Fees For SSC CGL 

Application fee for this exam is Rs. 100 but certain categories of candidates are exempt from paying the fee that are- 

  • Female candidates; mean there are no fees for all female applicants. 
  • Those who belong to SC/ST or are physically handicapped, and ex-servicemen.

Selection process

Tier I exam

The SSC CGL 2024 Tier 1 test features 100 questions, worth a total of 200 marks. Participants will receive 2 marks for each right answer, and a wrong answer will lead to a loss of 0.50 marks, following the format of the SSC CGL 2024 test.

The Tier 1 test for SSC CGL in 2024 covers subjects like English Language, General Awareness, General Intelligence & Reasoning, and Quantitative Aptitude. Passing the CGL Tier 1 test makes candidates eligible to move on to the SSC CGL Tier 2 test.

Tier II exam

The SSC CGL exam schedule for 2024, for the second tier (which includes Paper-I, Paper-II, and Paper-III) uses a question format that includes Objective Type and Multiple Choice questions, with the exception of Module II within Section-III of Paper-I. These questions are available in both English and Hindi, except for the English Language And Comprehension module in Section II of Paper-I.

Regarding the penalty for wrong answers, candidates will lose 1 mark for each incorrect response in Sections-I, II, and Module-I of Section-III of Paper-I. For Paper-II and Paper-III, the penalty is a deduction of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer. This detailed approach to the SSC CGL tier 2 examination is provided to assist candidates.

The selection procedure for Section III of Paper I relies on the overall scores of candidates in Sections I and II of Paper I. Candidates failing to meet the requirements in Sections I and II will not be consider for Section III, therefore not advancing to the next stage.
